Newcastle-Fort-ScratchleyWhen the Pacific Dawn came into Newcastle last week the big Cannon at Fort Scratchley was used to welcome the Pacific Dawns arrival into Newcastle. You can just see the Pacific Dawn in the background.

Fort Scratchley built in 1882 is situated on a strategic part of the south-eastern headland at the entrance to Newcastle Harbour. Set high on a hilltop overlooking the ocean and harbour, Fort Scratchley was designed with such a low profile that it is almost oblivious to any threat from the seaward side.

The Fort is rich in Military History and is an icon of the Newcastle and Hunter Valley Region.
