BURNIE’S COACH TOUR GUIDE CO-ORDINATORS

Allan and Marg Leeson are very much part of the cruise ship industry at Burnie, which is probably the busiest regional/rural cruise ship destination in Australia, with anything between 12 and 21 ship visits per season. While involved with local government marketing Allan introduced cruise ships to Burnie in 1999 and Marg was among coach tour guides to greet the first ship, the Sky Princess, on Christmas Eve, 1999, while Allan was involved in arranging shore activities.

Following retirement from the Burnie City Council, and then a five-year stint as Manager of Burnie Airport, Allan joined Marg as a coach tour guide in the 2006-07 season. Meanwhile, they had recognised the lack of an organised tour pool and have, almost since day one, voluntarily co-ordinated the guide data base pool and recruitment, while doubling up as professional commentary tour guides and, in Marg’s case, as pier manager for many of the inbound tour operators.

Both maintain a busy semi-retirement schedule with many organisations and their own consultancies, concentrating on marketing and research. and as Tasmanian Visitor Information Centre volunteers. Allan and Marg are pictured in holiday mode at their favourite destination, Waikiki Beach, Honolulu, earlier this year (2013).

They are a wonderful couple that truly make a difference and we applaud them !
